Driver You and any other agree and acknowledge that:
(a) only you will drive the Vehicle;
(b) you have not been convicted of, or have charges pending, for an offence relating to driving a Vehicle or you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs; or with a blood alcohol level over any legal limit, in respect of which the term of the penalty has not been fully served or served at all;
(c) you are 18 years of age or over and hold a valid full motor Vehicle driver’s licence (learners, restricted and probationary permits are not acceptable);
(d) you have not been refused or had any motor Vehicle insurance cancelled for any reason within the three years prior to the Rental Period;
(e) You have an English translation of your drivers licence if it is not in English. New Zealand law states you must carry an accurate English translation.
Where you cannot drive the Vehicle
You must not drive on these restricted roads:
(a) Skippers Canyon Road near Queenstown
(b) Bull Hutt Road near Mt Cook
(c) 90 Mile Beach in Northland.
Bond
This is the amount you are liable to pay in the event of an accident. Credit card details must be provided to us by you at the commencement of the Rental Period for the purposes of freezing the Bond. We only accept VISA or MASTERCARD. Third Party insurance is included in the quoted rate.
You authorise us to freeze a Bond of the amount relevant to your insurance option on your credit card at the commencement of the Rental Period. You authorise us to use the Bond to cover insurance excess costs (and any incidental costs) as a result of any accident during the Rental Period. The Bond amount will only be deducted in full from your credit card if you are involved in an accident whilst using the Vehicle. The Bond will be released when the Vehicle is returned provided no damage has occurred. The Bond is applicable regardless of who is at fault and must be paid at the time the accident report is completed, not at the completion of the rental. The Bond will be refunded to you if we are successful in recovering the costs of the damages from the third party. You acknowledge that you must pay for anything not covered by insurance or the Bond. We reserve the right to bank the Bond after the return of your Vehicle for any un-reported fines and damages to the Vehicle or third parties and their property. It is not compulsory in NZ for our road users to be insured, we strongly recommend taking Liability Reduction Option 2 or the All Inclusive to minimise your liability while on the road. Personal travel insurance is also strongly recommended to assist you in any unknown instances that could arise.
Insurance Options
For additional non-refundable fees, you may purchase from us a “Liability Reduction Option 1” “Liability Reduction Option 2” or “All Inclusive” insurance package (for those doing a $1 per day Vehicle Relocation only Standard Liability is available). This will reduce the Bond payable by you on a per incident basis unless the loss or damage is not fully covered by insurance. If an accident occurs before the expiry of the Rental Period you must pay additional fees for the remaining days of your hire if you still wish to obtain the benefit of additional insurance for the remainder of the Rental Period.
The insurance options, cost per day, bond and maximum collectable fees are set out as follows:

An additional non-refundable premium of $5 per hire day to a maximum of $175 i.e. 35 days rental will cover you for the loss or breakage of the front windscreen. This cover EXCLUDES the sunroof and all other glass windows and mirrors. A windscreen replacement costs $550 so we strongly recommend taking windscreen cover if opting for Standard Liability or upgrade to the All Inclusive which includes windscreen cover.
Roof Pod Bond There is a separate Bond of $1000 to cover any damages to the Roof Pod. This cannot be reduced. None of the Liability Reduction Options including the ‘All Inclusive’ include the roof pod. NOTE: In the event of a Single Vehicle Accident your maximum liability is that of the Bond applicable to your age and insurance option taken (except if you are in breach of this agreement in any way.) NOTE: Under the All Inclusive Package one windscreen and two tyres will be covered for accidental damage. Should this be exceeded the cost will be the responsibility of the hirer. Spaceships recommends taking ‘Reduction Option 2’ or the ‘All Inclusive’ option to reduce your liability so you can travel with peace of mind.
